In Helicon Remote I went into Network cameras. On the camera, in setup I left the D850 at the defaults, so the SSID is D850_, The authentication is WPS-PSK-AES (the only option I saw), and the channel is set to 11. With the last setup you can transfer RAW and JPGs to your laptop for editing.īased on troysg’s workflow, I’m trying to connect the Nikon D850 to my Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 again. Your laptop will connect to the router and the camera will be seen on your laptop. If you get Nikon D5 or D6 router works directly. If you are interested in the last option I can elaborate more.

You would have to modify both routers with firmware upgrade though. 902ac is actually cheaper and faster than any Nikon hardware attachment solutions like WT-6 or WT-7. TL-MR3040 (if you can find it) or TL-WR902ac which is faster.

Or you can get portable TP-Link router with external battery and get it to work with Nikon Camera Control 2 but the software is like $150. I just seen demo of Tethered Tools Air Direct. The latest FW just made it to work more reliably. What I understand is that D850 wifi only works with Snapbridge.

Camera displays PC same as though it were connected via USB. I put a lens in between the camera and TV which you see blocking the bottom part of the TV screen in the phone's display. If you go with Copy or Move then you are waiting for the file to get to your phone.Īnd here we see it in action. I would use Leave in Camera - it takes 3 seconds after you take one exposure to start the next. Under the Gear, go to the Saving menu and then choose where to save the images to. In HR, go to the Exposure menu then click Select a Camera and click on the D850 (or whatever you named it).Īfter a few seconds a check mark should appear in the check box indicating a successful connection to the camera.Īt this point you will have control of the camera. If you don't click Yes, the phone will eventually drop the connection which causes the camera to shut off Wifi. Once you do connect, (this is from an Android, not sure what an iPhone would look like) a warning will pop up stating there is no connection to the internet, check the check box and then click Yes.

The camera will time out and turn off Wifi if a connection is not made within a given amount of time. You will then see a screen instructing you to connect to the camera. Click OK.īack to the camera, in the Wifi settings go to Establish Wifi Connection and select OK. Then click on Next and enter the camera IP address (192.168.1.1) and click Done. Click on Add, then click on the Name field. In HR go to the Tools menu and then select Network Cameras. I'm not sure what would happen if more than one D850 was in use in the same location. Under Current settings, take note of the IP address which seems to be hardcoded to 192.168.1.1.

I prefer Manual and use either channels 1, 6, or 11. Under Authentication/encryption I would select WPA2-PSK-AES2.

I changed my SSID to D850_CAMERA and you probably want to change the password as well. The SSID by default is D850_camera-serial-number and the default password is NIKOND850 (case sensitive). Go to Wifi and then go to Network Settings. In the Setup Menu first of all be sure Airplane Mode is off so you can get to the Wifi Menu. Here's what I had to do to get the D850 (FW Ver 1.11) and HR (3.9.11, registered) working over wifi on my phone: Should this work and I'm doing it wrong, or does everything still require cables? And if so, what IS the d850 wifi good for? And, of course, Helicon Remote on the tablet also doesn't see it without the clunky cable. I can turn the wifi on, on the D850, and I can connect to it, but so? I THOUGHT (perhaps incorrectly) this built-in wi-fi was supposed to get rid of Snapbridge and/or whatever has to be used to talk to other devices.Īm I missing something 'cause I've connected to the camera from the laptop with LR CC 9.2.1 on it and the tethering doesn't see the camera.

Same for Helicon Remote between D850 and Samsung S6 tablet. Works fine, but we're tethered with a long cable, which, if you're clumsy like me, regularly winds up where you'd rather not have it. When we shoot shows we're tethered to Lightroom on a laptop. Actually, I haven't found much information ANYWHERE about using the D850 wifi for much of anything. I looked for D850 wifi in here and didn't see anything about wireless tethering without having to use additional software.
